Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about our organization and the proposed aquatic center. If you don’t see your question here, please contact us.

How will we fund this without adding new taxes?

Our plan relies on a diverse funding strategy that doesn’t require new taxes. We’re pursuing a combination of:

  • Private donations and fundraising campaigns
  • Grant funding from foundations and government programs
  • Corporate sponsorships and naming rights
  • Revenue from memberships and programs once operational

We’re committed to making this facility a reality through community support and smart financial planning.

Where can I learn more about the 'Minimum Lovable Product'?

The “Minimum Lovable Product” (MLP) approach is focused on building an essential, functional facility that meets the community’s most critical needs first. Rather than waiting years for a perfect, fully-featured facility, the idea is to create something that is viable and operational more quickly.

After discussion with many other facilities, we do not believe this operational approach is well-suited for our project. We intend to pursue a thorough feasibility study to understand our community’s long-term needs and build plans to meet those needs.

How will the center serve people with disabilities?

Accessibility is a core principle of our design. The facility will:

  • Meet and exceed ADA requirements
  • Include zero-entry pools and wheelchair-accessible features
  • Offer adaptive programming and equipment
  • Train staff in inclusive practices
  • Consult with disability advocates throughout the design process

We believe everyone deserves access to aquatic recreation and the life-saving skill of swimming.

How will the center welcome transgender and non-binary swimmers?

We are committed to creating a welcoming environment for all community members, including transgender and non-binary individuals. Our policies will:

  • Provide private changing options for anyone who wants them
  • Train all staff in inclusive practices
  • Establish clear anti-discrimination policies

Our goal is to ensure every person feels safe and welcome.

What makes this effort different from previous attempts?

Previous efforts to build an aquatic center in our area faced various challenges. Our approach is different because:

  • We’re organized as an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit, not dependent on government action
  • We are considering a phased approach as well as various designs which can be used based on the amount of capital secured
  • We’re building broad community coalitions across multiple jurisdictions
  • We’re pursuing diverse funding sources beyond tax levies
  • We’re committed to transparency and community engagement throughout the process
How can I help make this happen?

There are many ways to contribute:

  • Donate: Every dollar helps fund our feasibility study and planning
  • Volunteer: Join our committees and help with outreach
  • Spread the word: Share our mission on social media and with neighbors
  • Attend events: Come to community meetings and information sessions
  • Share your story: Tell us why this facility matters to your family
